Help Woodlander's Create a Sensory Room

Donation protected
My name is Sean Wilson and I am the 1201st Portreeve of Ashburton. A significant part of my role is concerned with the well-being of our community.

All children, but particularly those with SEN (Special Educational Needs), sometimes need a quiet, supportive space in which to feel calm and focused. This is more important now than ever, after two years of Covid restrictions that have limited young children's ability to socialise and engage with their peers for a considerable part of their lives.

Woodlander's Pre-School aims to create a sensory room that can be used as a quiet space for relaxation, focused activities and a safe space for individual children or small groups, to develop and engage with their senses. Sensory rooms use a variety of stimuli such as lights, colours, sounds, sensory soft play objects and aromas within a safe environment, which allows the person to explore and interact without risk.

How much is needed?
The overall cost of the project is a little over £1000 but it is made up of a number of little projects ranging from £45-£500 which each go a long way towards completing our goal:

£500 - will pay for prep, pipework and plastering
£200 - new electrics
£120 - painting and decorating
£100 - carpet and a rug
£100 - cushions, mirrors etc.
£100 - sensory lights and resources
£45 - swing
