Help Wonderful Nurses at Chartwell Cancer Unit

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Andy, in August 21 I was diagnosed with Leukemia out of the blue. The wonderful nurses and Drs at the Chartwell unit of Princess Royal University Hospital did everything they could and more for me. They went the extra mile, really cared, and did their very best, when I literally can only describe it as going to hell and back.

In my 5 weeks, I got to experience firsthand what these poor nurses and Drs face. Huge shortages of basic equipment shockingly such things as bandages, trolleys, and even menus for the patients. The nurses of this unit really care for their patients and do their very best to look after them.

A small donation directly to the ward would go a long way to helping them make patients’ lives better. I would like to raise money directly for the ward itself, rather than the hospital as a whole. So they and not senior management can control what they buy and actually need! You can be reassured that they always have the patient's best intentions at heart. So they would spend any money raised on making patients' lives better. Some people are not as lucky as me and never get to leave this ward, so you can make a real difference!

An example of what they need but can not get a replacement from the NHS without jumping through hoops, and red tape is a Trolley. This simple thing allows the nurses to load up with medication, supplies, etc whilst they do their rounds, instead of having to continually go back and forward. This simple thing would make their lives so much easier and also speed up their rounds allowing them more time to focus on those in need. They work 12-hour shifts so every little thing helps. They would also like to use this to run a tuck shop offering treats to patients that can't leave the ward or have visitors as they are in isolation.

Another example would be menus (approx £2.50!) for every patient's room. Eating is key to recovery and without a menu, people staying there are only really offered the same 4 or 5 dishes, and the person taking the orders does not have time to recite the whole menu. A kind nurse went out of her way and got me a menu, as they don't come as standard in every room and my stay was transformed. Hospital food is not the best but at least I had an extensive choice and could find dishes I liked. Before that, I hardly ate or was having the same dishes day in and day out.

Please give what you can, it does not have to be a lot at all and every penny helps.
