Hello, I'm Morgan - Ziggy's person. I am writing this on behalf of our little family myself, Justin and of course Ziggy. He has been my best friend, my support and a constant in my life for the last 13 years. I always like to say he chose me. When we met in the shelter he was rescued I felt like the look he gave me was "Hey! I need you to bust me out of here".
Recently, Ziggy has been dealing with several health issues; a grade V/VI heart murmur, kidney disease and now a potential pinched nerve in his c1/c2 discs.
Ziggy is nearing 14 years young and still has the energy to keep going. Over the last few weeks, he has been treated for his kidneys, including a hospitalization with our vet over the past weekend. He visits regularly to receive fluids and antibiotics to help support his kidneys along with blood tests to check his levels. He has about 25% function left, as an effect of his kidney disease he sometimes feels a loss of appetite and the desire to drink enough water which is why going into receive periodic treatments is so important to keeping him comfortable and healthy. After his treatments there is a noticeable difference in his energy. For his heart we are managing it right now with medication, Pimobendan.
Last night (8/8 Sunday) Ziggy was showing signs of severe distress and pain within the region of his neck and right front leg. He could hardly move or walk - so was taken into the emergency vet clinic around 3am. After an exam we were informed he might have a pinched nerve and should be seen by a neurologist. We also consulted with our regular vet today who took x-rays and confirmed he has narrowing in his c1/c2 discs, with a possible pinched nerve and a neuro would be our best move going forward.
Ziggy has an appointment for his consultation with a neurologist 8/13. He is still in pain, having trouble moving his head and using his right front leg. As you can imagine it makes eating and drinking difficult and painful. Without food and plenty of water this increases the risk for dehydration and Ziggy won't have the strength to keep his kidneys in good health.
Ziggy's vet bills have been piling up, but we've been managing the best we can. His neck injury has thrown a total curveball at us and it is becoming difficult to keep up with expenses. Alone over the last 2 months we are nearing $1,800 in vet bills (worth every penny). I know seeing a specialist - $190 for the visit, plus testing and getting him a much needed scan will be nearly impossible without help at this point.
When I rescued him I made a commitment to care for him the rest of his life, We can't give up on him now. As long as we can keep him comfortable and healthy we will continue to do all we can for him.
If you made it this far, we just wanted to say thank you. We appreciate you. This has been so hard on us. Any support is a huge help, a donation, a share - even just taking the time to read Ziggy's story.
Thank you for supporting us.
Ziggy, Morgan & Justin
