Those of you who know me and Winnie, know she is my world. Her loving nature, spunk, and sass has touched many lives. I never wish to reach out for help, but she and I are in a tough spot.
Last week, I started to notice Win had a loss of mobility. I took her to our vet and she was treated for back pain and given some anti-inflammatory medication. The next day when I got home from work, she could barely walk and had lost control of her back legs.. a heartbreaking scene to witness. We went to the Flagstaff vet hospital where she received a CT scan and I was informed that she has a severe slipped disc that was cutting off 75% of her spinal cord. She needed immediate surgery. The surgery is taking place as I write this.
It breaks my heart that I can't even be sure how this happened. Maybe she jumped off the bed when I wasn't home (even though she knows she's supposed to use her stairs!!). It is a common problem with dachshunds, though we always have done our best to stay fit and healthy.
The surgery alone is $5,500.00, on top of all of the other vet bills from the last week. I am struggling to find the funds to handle all of this, as it's an unexpected predicament.
I know it's been such a tough year for everyone! We would truly appreciate anything extra that can be spared to help get Winnie on her feet again, and promise to pay it forward in the future.
