Help with Vikas' Medical Expenses

Vikas Chilkuri has lived in this community for over 20 years. He has owned and operated Cafe Le Rue (a local restaurant) for more than ten decades. Vikas is a loving husband to Lisi Reneau Chilkuri, a fantastic dad to Noah (5) & Reya (3). Anytime anyone needed help in the community, he jumped at the chance to contribute through time or money.

 

On January 13, Vikas went in to have what they felt was a fairly straightforward surgery. They were going to remove a 6 cm mass on his adrenal gland. From the way the doctor described, he should have been back on his feet and running things within a week or two.

 

The surgery was successful. However, after a week, Vikas was not getting better. The family decided to close the restaurant for a week, hoping that things would be better by the following week. The doctor did scans and bloodwork, but that didn’t show much. A few days later, Vikas was struggling to breathe. His family called an ambulance. The Piedmont ER could not explain what was going on. They thought it was best to move him to where his original surgery team was located, Piedmont Atlanta. He was put on a ventilator and sent by helicopter there.

 

He went directly to the ICU. After a couple of days, he was diagnosed with septic shock along with other post-surgical complications. He stayed in the ICU for five days & spent another four days recovering in a regular room.

 

After being discharged, he is still unable to stand or even move his legs on his own. It will be a long road to recovery for him, even with the constant care of his wife and sister.

 

The family of Vikas Chilkuri is humbly asking for assistance during this time. With the restaurant being closed for a week and Vikas no longer able to do things on the side to supplement income for the restaurant, things are tight. That will be compounded when the medical bills start arriving. We appreciated any help during this time when the family’s primary focus is on Vikas’s full recovery.
