Help With Tyler's Emergency Medical Care

Hi, my name is Jess, on August 26th my boyfriend Tyler was involved in a cycling accident, where he slid out on a gravel road and ended up crashing going about 20mph and severely injuring himself.

The injuries he sustained left him concussed, bleeding from the nose & ears, and in critical condition. When we arrived to Tri-City Emergency Hospital, he was urgently rushed to get a CT completed which showed evidence of an acute skull fracture and epidural hematoma bleeding along the carotid artery in his head. He then had to be airlifted by helicopter to the Level 3 Trauma Center at Scripps La Jolla for further intensive care.

He also sustained a clavicle bone fracture, and deep abrasions on his skin. Tyler then spent the next few days in the ICU under strict monitoring, where he had eight CT scans, countless blood draws, neurological checks, and other tests completed. The latest CT scan showed that the bleeding in his brain had stabilized, and he then underwent orthopedic surgery to have his chest opened and clavicle repaired.

After two more days of monitoring and testing, we was discharged and we were finally able to take him home on the evening of 8/29/23. Thankfully, the skull fracture alleviated pressure from the brain-bleed, and he has been able to avoid undergoing brain surgery at this point in time.

With Tyler being home, we have been so incredibly grateful for all of the love, support, and well-wishes we have received. We are also incredibly blessed that each and everyday is he has been able to make progress, and now his path to recovery is our main focus.

Even though he continues to make progress daily, his journey is far from over. To ensure his recovery-plan is best impacting his health and welfare, there is multiple rounds of Specialist visits, physical therapy, and re-checks still to be made.

Due to the intensive and specialized nature of his care, insurance simply will not cover much of the medical aide he has received/will receive. At this time, we are reaching out to our friends, family, and community and asking for further support to help him focus on his healing, rest and recovery, and transition back to normalcy.

All donations will be put towards easing the financial burden of his medical bills, and wages lost from his time away from work while recovering.

We are extremely blessed with the fact that his is stable and recovering, and for all of the love and support we have already been given. Thank you all.
