On October 22, 2023 Tyler Irwin was involved in a motorcycle accident that left him with several injuries. Tyler was transported to Westchester Medical Center as a Level One trauma patient. He suffered injuries such as a spinal fracture, multiple rib fractures, a collapsed lung, and multiple complex fractures in both legs. As of two weeks after his accident, he already had one major surgery on his ankle, and pending three more surgeries. He was recently transported to Jacobi Medical Center to undergo a complex surgery. Once Tyler is discharged from the Med Center, he will have to endure extensive inpatient rehabilitation, and a great amount of outpatient physical and occupational therapy thereafter.
For those who know Tyler, understand his drive to better not only himself, but those around him as well. It is important for us to emphasize to those of you who don’t know Tyler, how much we cherish his friendship and personality. There is never a moment where he fails to make everyone in a room smile, even if its a hospital room.
Tyler currently works as a Radio Technician for the New York Stare Thruway communication system. This includes working on radio towers, thruway maintenance vehicles and State Police vehicles. The past 8 months Tyler has been giving up his Saturday nights to volunteer his time at Haverstraw Ambulance Corps and has provided countless hours of service. In August, he began his journey to further his education in the pre-hospital setting and started the EMT course through the Rockland County Fire Training Center. Unfortunately this journey has been postponed until he has fully recovered.
Before serving his North Rockland community, Tyler served his country in the United States Marine Corps as a field radio operator, integrated with combat arms elements. He was stationed in Camp Pendleton CA for three years and eventually deployed with the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit in 2019. He ended his service in 2020 as a Sergeant
Through this Go Fund Me we plan to assist Tyler in paying for all the medical expenses he will soon face and get him fully back on his feet, no pun intended. Any amount is greatly appreciated!
