Hi, my name is Becky and recently we had the heartbreaking news that Koko has pancreatitis, that could potentially be a tumour.
id like to tell you a little about how special this little dog is but first I’d like to tell you a little about her and our family.
her name is Koko, she’s 12 years old, she’s a beautiful chihuahua cross who has the attitude of a big dog.
she loves nothing more than fluffy beds and blankets and laying infront of the warm fire in the winter.
Her past; she was a rescue, she was found in the woods with a broken tail, which she later had amputated. my biggest wish was to have a puppy and the day it came True was the day I was surprised with her. She was at a shelter, there was very little space in the shelter and she sadly only had 7 days to find a home. That’s when my parents surprised me with her, I was 13 at the time and my heart exploded with joy, my dream came true and I am forever thankful she was found safe and brought into our loving home.
She has always been a healthy dog and we feel forever blessed that she has been.
Sadly the last 2 weeks have been heartbreaking, she stopped eating, didn’t even want her favourite treats, so we took her to the vets. Two appointments later and we had bloods taken, which revealed that she was suffering with pancreatitis. The vet was honest with us and told us she would need further tests to rule out a tumour. Her bloods showed that she was also dehydrated, which I didn’t think was possible since she was drinking so much water.
the vet recommended keeping her overnight for a fluid IV and some medication throughout the night, he quoted us £1,300 for the overnight stay.
we had no choice but to take her to a private vet, we were turned away from our first option, due to them not taking on new patients.
I can’t put into words how broken my heart felt while talking to the vet, I felt like half of my heart was being taken from me and I couldn’t do anything to help. The vet as sweet as he is, told us if we’re unable to pay for the overnight treatment, we could try giving her pain meds and keep her comfortable and hope the inflammation can get better. He went on to say that this condition can become extremely painful, especially in senior dogs and I can’t stand by while my sweet girl is in pain, if her condition turns chronic and the pain is too much, we would have to put her to sleep and I can’t even say that out loud without crying, this would be the very last option, I do not want her to be in pain or suffer, I just want to give her the best fighting chance.
The first option was one We couldn’t afford to pay for her overnight stay and I wish more than anything that we could’ve.
I am a full time carer for my mum, funds are very limited and I know that we aren’t the only family dealing with it right now.
Even if you are unable to donate, i appreciate the time you took to read and get to know our beautiful girl.
Any funds we receive will go into her vet bills, covering the overnight stays, medication, if any further tests need to be done.
