Help With Ta’Mahje heart transplant

Donation protected
We are Thomas Coley and Brandi Lewis, we are the parents of Ta’Mahje Coley. On August 18th 2016, Ta’Mahje was born with a congenital heart disease. The name of his particular disease is Double Outlet Right Ventricle, or DORV for short. The doctors informed us that the process to correct the plumbing of his heart would be a series of 3 surgeries, (The Norwood, Glenn, and The Fontan). Luckily for us, our precious baby boy did not have to get The Norwood, which is normally done within the first couple months of life or even as soon as weeks. On May 22nd 2017, at just 9 months of age, we prepared to watch our baby boy undergo his first major heart surgery, which was The Glenn. The surgery was a success! After spending just three days in the hospital, we were able to take our baby home! It was a challenge because at 9 months old most babies are crawling and/or pulling themselves up. Things were a little different in our household. Ta’Mahje spent his time working with a physical therapist trying to regain his strength. Over time he did get stronger! He began to crawl, walk and even run sometimes! The doctors predicted that his Fontan procedure would most likely be done in the spring of 2021 if Covid-19 had slowed down a little. 2021 didn’t make it before our baby boy experienced severe heart failure, and blood clots in both ventricles of his heart. We were scared, devastated, shocked and unprepared to say the least! It was supposed to be a routine appointment, not the scariest day of our lives! Since then, it’s been almost two months, Ta’Mahje has been in two different hospitals, literally fighting for his life. Thankfully on Jan 11th, 2021, Ta’Mahje was blessed with a heart! For over 7 hours, we sat on our thumbs waiting for Ta’Mahje to have the biggest surgery of his life. The heart transplant was a success! But the journey has just begun. We are asking for any donations to help with any medical expenses that aren’t covered by insurance, for food, for living expenses because we were unable to work doing this tuff time. Ta’Mahje’s hospital stay is expected to be at least one or two months longer, and even then his doctor asks that we stay in the area for a while upon discharge because his appointments would be frequent. We thought it be best to bring our other children closer to us, as we are unable to be there for them as parents should during this difficult time. As of right now, we are in Charlottesville, Va. and our other children are over an hour away. We ask also, for any donations or contributions to help us relocate to the Charlottesville area so our family can be together again! We thank you in advance for your generosity, and for taking the time to read our story!
