Hi everyone! Most of you know that I volunteer with the dogs on Monday night, and that I've been on the adoption team for quite a few years. I’m writing on behalf of a family I've worked with who has both fostered, and eventually adopted, a sweet dog named Stormi, from STAF.
Stormi was rescued in May 2022, from a rural country shelter in Kentucky. When we offered to bring her to STAF she was in good health but, just before she came to us, she was suddenly unable to walk at all. We learned that she had nerve damage, either from her spay surgery, or injections that were incorrectly given at the time. Stormi had little to no function in her right back leg, and there was obvious, debilitating nerve damage to the foot in her left back leg.
Over the months that followed she received constant medical treatments and various types of therapy to help her learn to walk again, and reduce the inflammation and pain in her legs. Because of the care and love she received from veterinary staff, STAF volunteers, and her foster family over the past year and a half, Stormi became a happy and healthy girl who could walk on her own, enjoying walks and playtime in her new home.
However, this past November, Stormi tore the ACL in her back left leg and then, due to the extra weight on her unstable right leg, she tore the ACL on that leg at well, and now is unable to walk again. She needs surgery on both ACL tears and the surgery recommended by a board-certified surgeon is a Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy (TPLO) performed on both legs at the same time. The cost for the surgery on both legs is $8,000. She will also need physical therapy afterwards to help her heal from the surgery. The family is able to finance the cost of surgery over many months but I have set up this site so that anyone, who might be interested in helping to partially cover the costs, could make their contributions here.
Stormi was much loved at STAF, and while we do not have the funds available to help her with our STAF budget, the volunteers would love to try and help her somehow
Thanks you so much for your consideration in helping Stormi and her family!
