Some friends of ours found this darling baby in the parking lot of a Wawa Saturday night, dehydrated and emaciated, but filled with love. We named him Shorti in honor of his rescue location, and got to work on getting him to eat and drink.
We had him scheduled to go see our vet for a check up on Monday, but Sunday night he suddenly crashed. He started fading fast, so he was rushed to the ER, where they determined he had become hyperglycemic. They managed to stabilized him and he was looking great! We left together at 1:30am, and he was back to his normal self.
Just a few hours later I got up to check on him, and he had crashed again. We rushed his tiny body back to the ER, but it was too late. We humanely euthanized him, while I kissed his little head and told him he was so very loved.
In total, all of the ER costs came to $1400, it was absolutely worth it to try and give this darling baby a chance at life, but it’s also unfortunately too much for me to handle all by myself.
Any amount helps tremendously, and if we somehow go over the amount, any excess will be going to SOS Cats RVA. They’re an amazing rescue and TNVR group that I’ve worked with for awhile now, and they’ve helped save countless lives from off the streets, just like Shorti.
