Hi, My name is Jan and I'm fundraising for my daughter Sandy who is currently in the fight of her life battling COVID.

 

Unfortunately Sandy had not received the COVID vaccine. She began feeling unwell after her daughter came home from a school trip where she had been with other children who must have had the virus. She ran a fever, developed a cough and went to the hospital struggling to breathe.

 

She was diagnosed with COVID, double pneumonia, a bacterial infection, and a constant low grade fever. With a build up of phlegm in her lungs, she was put on a ventilator to help her breathe.  She has been in the ICU for just over a month now.

 

Initially her breathing and oxygen levels were not where the Doctors wanted them to be so she was placed on a ventilator until she shows improvement. She had a tracheostomy and a food port installed and doctors were able to remove phlegm from her lungs. This helped some but not enough to get her off of the ventilator.

 

Her condition worsened and she was transferred to a larger hospital in Modesto for more intensive treatment.

With the tracheostomy tube in her throat she can't speak and it's impossible to communicate. When she is awake she's frustrated that she can't say anything or speak to her husband or children. She turns her head to the side and the tears roll off her face.  She is kept mostly sedated to ensure she doesn't panic and try and remove the breathing tube herself.

 

She's been running a low grade fever in the evenings that the antibiotics and Tylenol aren't helping to reduce. The doctors are unsure what is causing the fever now.

 

Sandy has 5 children and 2 grandchildren and recently celebrated her 50th birthday.

 

Her entire family loves her and prays daily for her to get through this.  We know that her fight won't be over when she wakes up and want to do whatever we can to prepare her for long term care and eventual recovery.

 

The money from this fundraiser will be used for her immediate medical bills as well as for the long term care she is expected to need.
