Help with Sandra Luu's ALS Medical Costs
Donation protected
Hello, my name is Erin Oehlman and I have created this fundraiser for my friend Sandra Luu. Sandra is battling ALS, a fatal nervous system disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. ALS causes loss of muscle control and the disease gets worse over time. Sadly, the average survival time with ALS is 2-5 years. Her symptoms began almost two years ago and she is now unable to care for herself and her girls. Her symptoms include loss of speech, difficulty eating, fatigue, muscle weakness, and limited mobility. As her symptoms continue to worsen she is in desperate need of in-home care. Unfortunately, her insurance does not cover the cost of an in-home nurse and the out-of-pocket cost would be $35/hr. ($350 for a 10 hour day). About $2500/week.
Sandra is a thoughtful and caring woman, who worked as a hospital nurse for many years. She devoted many years caring for others, and now she needs others to care for her.
Additionally, this fundraiser will support Sandra's two young daughters (ages 3 and 7) who are in need of counseling during this difficult time. They will be receiving play-based therapy from Play Well Child Life Services once a week, which costs $175/session. Once again, this is not covered by insurance.
***UPDATE!***Thank you for your generous donations!! Sandra’s daughters have received their first two therapy sessions and it is going really well. 100% of the funds we’ve raised so far are going to the girls’ therapy sessions. Please continue to share the fundraiser link with your friends and family.
If you are able to help in any way, we would be so grateful! To think that money is standing in the way of her and her girls getting the care they need during this extremely difficult time is heartbreaking. Any help is appreciated.
