Help with Robocop's emergency vet care

Hello, my name is Georgia and I'm Robocop's mom.

Robocop is the adorable little boy in the picture who became part of our family in June after he was rescued from a kill shelter in Texas by an amazing rescue.

He is partially paralyzed, but he is a fighter. He managed to regain a lot of his mobility after guidance from his neurologist and weekly appointments at a rehabilitation center. As you can imagine his bills have been high but I never asked for help before.

But now Robocop is at the emergency hospital and we need your help.

 

On Wednesday I noticed he hadn't peed during the night which isn't normal. I tried to express him but I wasn't able to so I was alarmed. I gave him his breakfast but he didn't eat, something that has never happened before, and the whole time he seemed to be really uncomfortable. I tried to express him again and he seemed like he was in pain so I immediately called our vet. We were thankfully seen as soon as 9:30 am, they immediately started examining him. His bladder by that time felt like a rock and he was still not able to pee. They took some x-rays and did an ultrasound, the x-rays around his bladder and penis looked really bad. I was advised to take him to a specialist at the emergency clinic as soon as possible to put a catheter in and run more necessary tests.

 

So we immediately went to Animal Health Partners (emergency and specialty clinic), they put him under anesthesia and put a catheter in, took more x-rays and an ultrasound, did blood work and sent his urine for analysis, but Robocop had to stay at the hospital overnight to keep the catheter in, be monitored and on iv fluids.

I got an update on Thursday morning that the urine analysis came back and they confirmed his bladder and urethra is full of crystals. We patiently waited until the evening when the internal medicine doctor did an ultrasound to see if he also has stones, which unfortunately, he does.

 

Now they will have to do surgery on him tomorrow, Friday, to remove them, clean his bladder and then send them to be analyzed so that we learn what is causing this and how to prevent it in the future.

If everything goes as planned, Robocop will have to stay at the hospital for 24-48 hours after surgery to be monitored and cared for. Then he will have to rest with medications and on special diet at home for 2-3 weeks and go back to the hospital to remove stitches and make sure everything is okay.

 

They have been telling me that he is in stable condition and alert, which is good, I told you he is a fighter. They also said he has won everybody's hearts at the hospital and getting everyone's love. I didn't expect anything less, he tends to do that to everyone he meets.

 

The bills that are piling up are way too expensive for us and we really need some help.

- At Jane animal hospital on Wednesday we paid 443.14 CAD

- At Animal Health Partners we prepaid half of the highest estimate at the time which was1881$ when dropping him off.

-Today we paid another 1881$ in the morning

-and half of the highest estimate for the upcoming surgery and 24hr care which was 2896$.

the rest 2896 is on hold and will have to be paid tomorrow

 

These prices, that are almost 10,000$ already, don't include the future appointments to make sure everything is okay and to remove stitches, his future Medications and special veterinary diet.
