Help With Riley's Medical Expenses
Donation protected
At the end of June 2020, Riley (28) walked into the emergency room in Toledo, Ohio with pain in his abdomen. He was diagnosed with a pancreatic cyst but before doctors could treat the source of his pain, he began to develop rapid on-set paralysis. He was subsequently diagnosed with Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS), a rare neurological disorder in which the body's immune system mistakenly attacks part of its peripheral nervous system—the network of nerves located outside of the brain and spinal cord.
He still is unable to move his legs or arms and is breathing with the assistance of a ventilator. He recently began his second round of plasma treatments and has had countless scans and tests. He has had multiple complications including a bowel infection, lung issues, and the insertion of a pacemaker because his heart stopped. He also had surgery to drain the cyst on his pancreas. Recently, he was transported from Toledo to Cleveland Clinic and is currently stable and making small progress.
Riley is originally from Kansas and his parents are having to travel back and forth to care for him. We do not know how long it will take Riley to recover or what lies ahead for him, but we expect the costs to continue to add up. We appreciate any support you can give us as we care for him in the short-term and make plans for his long-term care.
