Richard Erickson was originally diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma Cancer in 2013 in which he had a transplant at that time. He had remained in remission for 7 years. In 2020, the cancer returned. After all the coordinating he was able to receive another transplant at Mayo on February 24th. They had to stay within 30 miles of Rochester for a full month after the transplant. As you can probably imagine, that gets very costly with travel, lodging, meals, etc. All of this on top of their medical bills.
Once they returned back home to Pelican Rapids, Richard spiked a fever and was admitted to Sanford in Fargo on 3/20. He was released on 3/25; there was no solid plan and he was still spiking fevers after he was released. Fevers are not a good thing after a transplant or after chemo tanks your immune system; you have no good cells left in your body to fight off anything good or bad. On April 13th he spiked another fever and was transported by ambulance to Mayo in Rochester, MN. He will be released tomorrow (4/17) but has to remain in Rochester for a week to have daily appointments to meet with his oncologist.
To say this is a very scary, stressful situation is an understatement. Missy has been by his side for this entire process. You can probably imagine the stress and financial toll this has had on their family. Please, please help if your able. Anything at all is appreciated!!
Thank you,
Shaina Adelman
