K9 Kolt was paired with Officer Kemp in November of 2015 as one of Santa Rosa Police Department’s four K9 teams.
After 1,000 hours of Patrol and Narcotic detection training, Kolt hit the streets of Santa Rosa where he served the community until his retirement in 2020.
During his career, Kolt responded to thousands of calls for service, made numerous narcotic finds, and apprehended several violent suspects. Kolt was also beloved by all the employees of Santa Rosa PD and could regularly be found running the halls with his toy, looking for someone to play with him.
He loved demonstrating his skills to the community during K9 demonstrations, and was always eager to make appearance on the Dept’s social media pages.
Kolt has enjoyed retirement, becoming a full time house dog and living with Officer Kemp’s family who has since relocated to San Diego.
Unfortunately, on 5/15/21, Kolt became very sick and was taken to a local vet hospital. Due to the apparent severity of his illness, Kolt was immediately admitted to Veterinary Specialty Hospital in San Marcos, where he is still receiving treatment. Veterinarians are still conducting tests to determine the cause of Kolt’s illness, but have narrowed it down to an issue with his gastrointestinal tract. Veterinarians are hopeful an endoscopy on 5/21/21 will give definitive answers.
Kolt’s veterinary bills have already eclipsed $20,000, and because Santa Rosa does not have any program to support their retired K9’s, Kolt’s family has been responsible for financing his medical treatment.
Kolt deserves a long and happy retirement, but his family will soon be unable to afford further medical costs.
