I rescued Pearl about 2 years ago. The person who had her could not keep her as she was rejected and attacked by the other dogs living with them.
Despite a challenging start, she has become part of our family. She is a bit shy with strangers at the beginning, but is very friendly once she gets to know the people.
She loves playing with other dogs, park walks, cuddling and her snacks.
Last year, she had her first incident with a slipped disk, but managed to completely recover with medications and bed rest.
Unfortunately, it happened again a few weeks ago. She is currently on conservative treatment (Strict bed rest and medications), with paralysed hind legs, and we don't know whether she will get better or not. I am trying to stay optimistic., but I am also realistic.
Surgery is very, very expensive and the insurance would maybe cover 10% of it max.
A few days ago, I found out about an alternative, more affordable treatment, but that was only available in Texas, Today, I have found out it is now available at QVSH in Cambridge.
I have e-mailed the professor in charge of it, and Pearl is eligible for it.
Here are the details of the treatment: https://www.hospital.vet.cam.ac.uk/news/qvsh-offers-new-injection-treatment-dogs-ivdd
The cost would be £1750. The treatment is an injection, which would be way less invasive than surgery.
Pearl is only 4 years old, she has a good chance of recovery. Any help towards the cost would be appreciated.
