Many of you have reached out asking how you can help support our parents practically during this time. As you can imagine, the cost of an apartment rental, laundry, and daily living expenses in Palo Alto on top of their mortgage and bills, as well as all of the medical procedure costs and prescriptions, puts a huge strain on my parents financially. Medication costs have been shockingly high (for example, one medication that costs $2,000/week, another that is $5,000/month, amongst many others). There are new medications that are being prescribed constantly that she must have to combat all of the potentially life-threatening things that can happen during this transplant process and she is stalling on picking them up from the pharmacy while she spends her days on the phone with her insurance company, Stanford, and the actual pharmaceutical companies themselves trying to get part of the cost covered so they can afford to pick them up. They have been able to get some of these costs reduced through these calls but the time spent trying to negotiate these prices is time lost taking these incredibly important medications, and even with price reductions, the overall costs of everything that goes along with this procedure are very high. During an already difficult and stressful time, we do not want her to be spending the days she is meant to be resting and healing on the phone for hours making calls about her medication costs. It puts so much extra stress on an already stressful time.

We are setting up this Go Fund Me account to help ease the financial burden for our parents over these next months, so that my mom can have access to the medication and care she needs without financial stress… and without my parents having to figure out how they can afford all of this. We want them to have some breathing room so that they are able to focus on resting, healing and a successful transplant.

It is very difficult to know the exact costs over these next few months, because they are changing every few days as new medications are being prescribed. But after writing out what we do know, our best estimate is that $25,000 would help to provide for rent in Palo Alto, medication costs, medical bills, and cost of living expenses, on top of their regular expenses.
