Help with Pam's Recovery

Anyone who has met my mom, Pam, knows that she is a warrior. She is a wife, mother to my sister & I and grandmother to 5 grandchildren who adore her. She has been battling Lupus since she was 17 years old, which has caused numerous health issues, countless medications, a weakened immune system & more doctors' visits than one person should have in their lifetime. In 2016, she was given an injection in her eye to help slow some developing macular degeneration. Unfortunately, she somehow developed an eye infection almost immediately after the shot and lost vision in her left eye. For the last 5 years, she has also been receiving daily dialysis for kidney failure and has been on the kidney transplant list.

At the beginning of 2021, my mom contracted covid and has been fighting yet another health battle. It has had many ups and downs with both good news and bad news. She was hospitalized in January and received treatment for covid. She was sent home but still needed constant care and assistance from my dad. She was home for over a week and then on February 4th, she was taken by ambulance back to the hospital where it was discovered that she had developed pneumonia. She was receiving antibiotics, breathing treatments and was on constant oxygen. When her breathing wasn’t improving, they had her on a bipap machine to help force air into her lungs. During the night of February 10th, my mom was agitated and confused and sometime in the early morning of the 11th, she had reached up and taken the bipap mask off of her face. We aren’t sure how long she was without the oxygen and were told she went into cardiac arrest and had to be resuscitated. She was immediately placed on a ventilator and was taken to the ICU.

At one point we were told that she may never recover from the cardiac incident. We continued to visit my mom daily, praying with her and thanks to many other faithful pray warriors, my mom showed improvement and was able to be taken off the ventilator on February 13th. It was truly a miracle to witness and we are so thankful the Lord brought her through that. In true Pam fashion thinking of others, she asked my dad if he could please bring donuts in for the nurses the next day. My mom continued to improve and in order for her to regain strength, it was decided to move her into an acute care facility so she could receive physical therapy multiple times a day.

Unfortunately, shortly after her move, she had some unexplained GI bleeding and had to receive numerous blood transfusions. She became very ill again to the point where she was not able to communicate and could hardly open her eyes up. I’m probably missing something along the way that happened; it has been a roller coaster to say the least. When my dad visited today, March 3rd, my mom was alert and able to have a conversation with him. We will continue to pray for her healing and that each day she becomes stronger.

My parents have never been “rich” by today's standards but they have always been rich in the love they have shown each other and those around them, whether that’s lending a helping hand with something, or cooking a meal for others. I don't think anyone has ever left their house hungry ;-) ! The goal is to raise money to help offset some of their financial burden. We want Pam (mom, grandma) to be fully focused on her recovery and making it back home where she can see her grandbabies again.
