The Loss of Pam: How You Can Help

Donation protected
On March 17, 2023, our dear friend Pamela Kimball Brown lost her life to liver disease. In November, Pam’s condition progressed from chronic and manageable to acute and life-threatening. It was the beginning of a months-long journey with stays at 4 different hospitals, dashed hopes, and piles of unexpected expenses for Pam and Steve and their family.

In late February, Pam was admitted to UCSF for treatment and liver transplant evaluation. With each new intervention including blood transfusions and kidney dialysis, Pam took some baby steps forward, but overall, she continued to decline and was not a candidate for a transplant. She was simply too ill to have a good chance of surviving the surgery. The family took comfort that in her final days, Pam was surrounded by loved ones including her dog, Buddy.

Pam’s family has experienced a great deal of upheaval. Costly flights, daily commutes to the hospitals in San Francisco, meals out (since they were hardly home), and loss of income from reduced work to name a few. Pam was fortunate to have medical insurance, but with a health crisis of this scale, the out-of-pocket maximums were quickly reached across two calendar years. The purpose of this Go Fund Me is to help the family with these expenses, as well as additional uncovered medical costs incurred in the frantic fight for Pam’s life. Understandably, the family is overwhelmed. Many have already helped through donations of money or services and for that, the family is profoundly grateful.

If you are looking for a way to help Pam’s family in the wake of her passing, please consider helping with a donation to this fund or honor Pam's life with a donation to one of her many cherished charities. Pam was a generous person who worked for and believed deeply in the mission of Danville’s Lazarex Cancer Foundation (www.lazarex.org). She was a longtime friend of Save Mount Diablo (www.savemountdiablo.org) and was active in supporting other charities such as Yoga Gives Back (www.yogagivesback.org).

A celebration of Pam’s life will be held at The Oakland Rotunda on April 1 at 2:00 pm. Details can be found on Evite.

I organize this Go Fund Me with the family’s blessing. As a friend of Pam for more than ten years, I am so incredibly sad to see her life cut so short. My family and I will all miss her vibrant, joyful spirit. On behalf of Steve, Becca, Clarke, David, Barbara, Jessie, Jeremy, and all the extended family, thank you for caring.

Yours very sincerely,
