Help With Nellie’s Surgery and Rehab

On December 16th, Nellie will be getting Bilateral TPLO Surgery to fix both of the torn CCLs in her back legs (human ACL is the equivalence of dog CCL). Nellie is having this done on both back legs during the same surgery. Because of the complexity of TPLO surgery (they'll cut the tibia bone on each leg, reposition it, and then use a metal plate and screws to hold the new bone position in place). She will then have a long recovery process involving activity being strictly limited for several weeks (to allow the new bone position to fuse together), and will also need rehab and physical therapy to gain strength, muscle, and mobility back. The cost of surgery and 12+ weeks of rehab will be just under $12,000.

These two fully torn CCLs (confirmed by X-Rays, a vet, and 2 orthopedic surgeons) have caused joint instability, loss of mobility, pain, and intermittent lameness in both of her back legs. If the injury is not treated, damage to connective tissues and degenerative joint disease often results which will greatly affect her quality of life as she loves to go for long walks, swim, play with friends, and be the happy, social, athletic dog she is.

After surgery, Nellie will have a long road to recovery ahead of her and we'd love to offer financial assistance to Heather so she can focus on Nellie's recovery rather than the overwhelming cost of the surgery and rehab.

Our dogs have been besties since day one and we are so ready for Nellie to be able to play with them again. She means more than anything to not just Heather, but to us as well and we can't wait for her to be healthy, strong, and back on her feet again with the support of her new knees.
