Support for Avascular Necrosis Treatment

Donation protected
My younger sister Lydia started having a random shooting pain in her foot in 2018 while packing up her belongings in North Carolina in preparation for Hurricane Florence. After the hurricane, Lydia volunteered with the relief team in her city. While she was volunteering, she was on her feet for several days. By the end of her time the pain had become unbearable. Lydia went to her primary doctor.  The pain was dismissed as plantar fasciitis.

Three months later Lydia was still in a lot of pain, simply by walking.  She went to another doctor and found out that instead of plantar fasciitis, she in fact had fractures in her foot. She was told that both sesamoid bones were fractured.

Lydia underwent many doctor visits and embolization of her left foot, but no improvement was made. The pain persisted and increased. Several doctors and specialists later, she found that she had avascular nerosis.  A disorder of the sesamoid bones in her left foot.   While one of the sesamoid bones was fractured, the other was dying.

Her current doctor had a plan for her. The plan was to try and revive the bone with treatment and 12 weeks of non weight bearing activities, as well as healing the other with a bone stimulator.    If the treatment does not work she will have to have surgery to remove the bone before it causes further damage.

We are all very happy that she finally has answers to what has been troubling her for the past year. Unfortunately, the treatment and surgery are not fully covered by insurance. In addition her total time out of work will roughly add up to 4 - 8 months.

Lydia has had to take medical leave from her current job due to the strenuous physical demands and is currently seeking out virtual employment, or work that does not require her to use her left foot.

Because of the restrictions set by her doctor and the demands of every day life coupled with medical bills,  she is now asking for help. Help for her medical billls, rent, bills and expenses so that she is able to go through the treatment and get back to work, and life.  If you are unable to help financially, prayer and emotional support at this time would also be an amazing and encouraging gift for her.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read her story.
I hope that it finds you well. Blessings to you - Emily
