Help with Mr. Hugh & Ms. Allison's Medical Bills

Donation protected
Hello Friends of Mr. Hugh, Allison and K2,

It has come to my attention that the fight Hugh has been waging against metastatic cancer has not only been a horrific battle medically... but also financially. I have asked both Hugh and Allison for permission to send this information and request out into the world... in hopes that your love of them has carried with all of you all these years and, if you're able, to help.

Following is a current update on Mr. Hugh via direct information from Allison:

As some of you may remember, "Mr. Hugh" got cancer and was undergoing chemo/immunotherapy. During the pandemic, doctors didn't want cancer patients coming in for infusions as often; so instead of coming every other week for his infusions, they had him come once a month and would double the dose. This had disastrous effects on Hugh's side effects. All of the possible adverse side effects, which he hadn't experienced, all happened once the dosage was doubled. Ultimately, the "double" chemo/immunotherapy destroyed his organs and gave him megaloblastic anemia, resulting in hospitalization. As if that wasn't awful enough, he then contracted Stevens-Johnson Syndrome and was admitted to the UCSD Burn Center ICU. After all of this, Hospice Care was recommended. Allison now needed to care for him 24 hours a day. The hospice nurse comes one morning every other week to do a check-up. Through all of this, the hospital bills have been astounding! One hospital stay, from over a year and a half ago, is charging them over $100,000 even with their insurance. (Allison is appealing it.) In addition to that huge bill, they are also getting additional recurring medical bills of over $2,000 a week from other past due hospitalizations, procedures, and tests. On a teacher and construction worker's pension, there is no way they can keep up with these bills. Allison pays the ones she is able to, but it is overwhelming on top of caring for Hugh.

Through all of this, Hugh and Allison's kind hearts and strong spirits have shone through. I know the collective love and appreciation for them spreads throughout every life they have touched. Thank you for donating ANY amount... ALL of it will help shoulder their financial burden.

Lastly, to Hugh & Allison - WE LOVE YOU!!!!

Thank you for your support! Please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions.
