After rushing to the emergency vet and undergoing a slew of testing, Millie was recently, unexpectedly diagnosed with anemia (her organs were not getting enough oxygen from her blood); caused by a form of leukemia at only 5 years old. Four months of steroids, weekly blood tests and check-ups, and a blood transfusion were prescribed for immediate treatment. Chemotherapy options were also discussed. After Millie started treatment, she seemed slowly on the road to recovery. Unfortunately, Millie took another decline and she sadly passed away. Losing her has been heartbreaking, and I miss her every day.

Millie was my best friend and my whole world. She was an intelligent, clever and sweet dog with a big, delightful personality who filled my days with laughter and love. Whether she was snuggling under her favorite blanket, asking for belly rubs, or watching birds on our walks, Millie’s gentle and funny spirit brought so much joy to my life. I was deeply dedicated to her, and my daily routine revolved around making sure she was happy and cared for.

I was communicating with a local animal non-profit who assists with veterinary bills, who agreed to help with the emergency costs already incurred, and with future anemia and cancer treatments. They were in agreement with her veterinary care team. When I informed the animal non-profit that Millie passed away, they said and I quote, "Helping you would not be a good look for us." because they wanted to use her for a "success story" to encourage others to donate to their cause. The animal non-profit reversed their agreements completely without fulfilling any financial assistance to Millie's emergency care and treatments she had.
