Help with Micks Recovery
Donation protected
Hi, we are raising fund to help our friend Mick Muir and his family while he recovers from an unimaginable life changing stroke.
Mick is from the Western NSW town of Nyngan. Late October this year Mick collapsed while at work and was rushed to Nyngan Hospital. He was flown by helicopter to Canberra hospital where his wife Cass and family members learnt that he had suffered a severe inoperable brain aneurysm causing a massive stroke that had affected the left side of his brain. When Cass arrived in Canberra, Mick was in an induced coma and the Drs were unsure if and how he would be until he was brought out of it.
When Mick woke a few days later he was paralysed on the entire right side and could not talk. This was very frustrating for him because he knew what he wanted to say but could not get it out. His children and wife helped get him an iPad and whiteboard and he is learning to write left-handed to be able to communicate with them.
He has recently been moved to a Rehab Centre in Dubbo which is 2 hours from his home in Nyngan. Here he is doing intensive speech therapy, physiotherapy etc to try and get well enough to come home. He is starting to be able to move his right leg and hand a small amount and can say a few words so the therapy is definitely helping!
We would like to try and raise some money to go towards helping Mick get home. This would be in the way of supporting his wife Cass and son Logan with fuel, food and accommodation to visit him. It will also go towards any medical bills or care/equipment that can help Mick get home.
