Help With Melody's End of Life Care
Donation protected
Our mom, Melody Zemke, has been battling breast cancer since 2023. She received notice that she was in remission, feeling better, and back to gardening. After a week of excruciating pain, on January 24th she took an ambulance to Meridian Park Hospital. It was then we learned her breast cancer metastasized. She now has stage 4 breast cancer in her liver and her bones. Mom has been fighting hard to get back home. She underwent radiation and chemotherapy at St Vincent's Hospital. The radiation helped to relieve some pain in her bones, but the chemotherapy failed to treat the cancer.
Her care team decided there were no further treatment options. Her final wish is to come home to be with dad and her pets. Yesterday she returned home and we are now helping her through the end of her life with hospice. At this point her comfort and security are the focus. We (Megan and Jenny) are staying with her 24-hours a day to care for her.
As many of you know our dad also went through a health scare recently and is in recovery from his injuries. He is doing much better, but he is not able to help much with mom's care. The doctors are unsure of how much times she has left. She may need more care than the two of us are able to provide. The insurance covers only the minimum requirements for hospice. If she needs additional care, mom and dad will have to pay out of pocket. They do not have financial means to cover the cost of any additional care. We are asking for your help to continue to provide the care she needs.
