As most of you know, my dad had a life changing accident happen while at work. He works in drywall, something he has done all his life. On Monday August 16th, 2021, I received the call from my mom that my dad was being air lifted to UNC. My dad had fell from approximately 9 feet in the air off of a scaffold due to it not being locked in place very well. He broke both of his legs (tibia/fibula) in several places as well as his left ankle and right knee, fractured 4 ribs on his right side, and an occipital skull fracture. He was in ICU on a ventilator and feeding tube Monday and Tuesday and was taken off the ventilator and feeding tube Tuesday night and moved to an intermediate room. The doctors say that his skull and ribs will heal up fine on their own but his legs will never be the same. He had one surgery on his legs Tuesday morning and will have another sometime in the beginning of this week, depending on how the swelling is looking. They are uncertain at this time if he will need any more surgeries on his legs following this next one but he will have to go through physical therapy once all surgeries are completed. I am not one to ask people for anything ever, but I feel like I need to do this for my parents. My mom is a server at Hwy 55 in Dunn and my dad is going to be out of work with no income for who even knows how long. Neither one of them have any type of insurance and their was no workers comp where my dad worked. My mom has been missing some days of work so that she can be in Chapel Hill with my dad and on days she is at work or handling her other responsibilities such as taking care of my 15 year old sister who is starting back school Monday and currently going through drivers ed, I have been there with my dad. As if my mom doesn’t have enough on her already, she doesn’t know how she is going to keep all the bills paid, keep them fed, and pay for all these medical bills. When he comes home, she’s going to have to be there 24/7 taking care of him so they will have no income. I will be helping them the best I can, as I already have been, but it still isn’t going to be enough for this long road ahead of us. Anything will be very much appreciated and used strictly for medical bills, personal bills, and groceries. Thank you all in advance
