Help with Medical Costs for AJ & Greg Sharpe

Hello, and thank you for coming to our GoFundMe page for my Mum and Stepdad. The last nine months have been particularly difficult for my parents. In November of 2021, my mum, AJ, went in for what was supposed to be a routine surgery to have her carotid artery cleared. During surgery, there was a missed complication that resulted in a stroke. My mother was completely dead on her right side, meaning she had no motor function; she could barely speak and lost most of the vision in her right eye. She was in the hospital for 17 days. Many of you know my mum, so it should be no surprise that with sheer grit, determination, and some physical therapy, she made a full recovery by March of 2022.

She was released back to work on March 8th. On March 9th, my stepdad, Gregory, was diagnosed with cholangiocarcinoma (Big Scary Word). This is a cancer that attacks the bile ducts in the liver. In Greg’s case, not only is it a rare strain of this cancer, but it’s also genetic (meaning he is not a candidate for transplant or re-sectioning). It’s Stage Four. It’s containable but not curable. He is on chemotherapy and immunotherapy - and the good news is that, after a couple of months of this, the mass is starting to shrink and the satellite metastasized tissues that were scattered throughout his abdomen are dead or dying. The enlarged worrisome lymph node is also now dead or dying.

Full recovery from a stroke! Cancer starting to shrink! These are impressive feats accomplished by amazing humans!

I’ve lost count of the number of doctor’s appointments, hospital trips/admissions, lost days at work, etc. Mum had to use all her FMLA on herself, Greg is on long- and short-term disability, and after deducting the amount he must pay to keep his insurance, which he clearly needs, it’s maybe half of what a regular income would be. That is where this GoFundMe kicks in. Medical bills are coming in every other day on top of the cost of living, and the struggle is very real. I know my mum has been around to help A LOT of people (Greg too). If you have the ability to donate, even $5, please do so. Every dollar adds up.
