My dad, Robert Majors, has lost 75 pounds in the past year (without trying). When he initially went to the Dr. to make sure everything was alright in March of 2018, bloodwork and x-rays showed no problems. He continued to lose weight, and in October 2018, bloodwork showed that his kidney function was way too low. Further testing showed his calcium was extremely high, a hypercalcemic crisis. He was immediately hospitalized for eight days to flush his system and lower his calcium levels. They originally tested him for various cancers, but have ruled them out. They currently believe that he is suffering from Sarcoidosis, basically a very serious auto-immune disease that attacks the organs. The treatment for Sarcoidosis is usually intense, life-long treatment, most times using immunosuppressants. Because of the aggressive nature of the treatment, they have to definitively confirm the diagnosis by locating sarcoid cells within his body. He has already had one kidney biopsy which was inconclusive. The next biopsy will be from his lung.
Despite not having a conclusive diagnosis and treatment plan at this point, due to multiple scans, extensive testing, and hospital stays and infusions to keep his calcium at a reasonable level, medical bills are quickly adding up. This coupled with him missing so much work for the hospital stays, testing, and feeling unwell and my mom having been laid off from her job, they are really struggling financially. The medical costs continue to add up, and they need to keep making payments on them to continue receiving care and eventually a diagnosis and treatment plan.
Your prayers and support are much appreciated as my dad and family go through this difficult time.
