Help with medical bills for Kaleek June
Donation protected
I am raising money to help my cousin Selena and her family with medical bills for their son Kaleek.
This is from Selena:
Our 3 year old son Kaleek was outside playing when he fell and busted the back of his head on 01/12/22, receiving 3 staples. Two days later on 01/14/22, He woke up from his nap, unable to move his arms or hands. I quickly took him to the hospital in Sumter. We got there around 5PM and were taken straight back. The doctor order a CT scan of Kaleek's head and neck. He wasn’t being still, enough for his neck CT, but the doctor in Sumter said the head CT looked fine. He said he had never seen anything like this in his 26 year career. He told me and Kaleek's dad, that he wanted to call the Children’s Hospital in Richland, to see what they wanted to do. They told him to go ahead and arrange an ambulance to transport us to them. When we got here (Richland Children's hospital), they tried to do another head and neck CT but again Leek didn’t wanna sit still. If you know leek, he is a very happy, active, and outgoing kid, and never likes to sit still lol. They told us they wanted to sedate him to get an MRI done. We were told it would be about 40 mins but ended up taking 2 hours. When Kaleek was out of the scan, we got him back to his room. One of his doctors came in and spoke with us. That is when we were told he has a large brain tumor on the back of his brain, pushing into his brain stem. Since no one has seen this before, his condition, they had the entire pediatric team on this. They believe that the fall he had 2 days prior could have activated the swelling of an already existing, unknown tumor.
They plan to do one more MRI to see if the steroids he has been on are shrinking the tumor. After the MRI, Leek will be going into the OR for surgery on 01/18. We have been told the surgery will be roughly 3 hours long. They will be draining the cyst around the tumor and doing a biopsy on the tumor to make sure it's not cancerous.
His father and I are devastated and still in shock about all of this. We never imagined anything like this would happen to one of our children. I’ve been here since 01/14, alone, due to Kaleek continuing to test positive for COVID. Since he’s in the PICU only one parent is allowed to be with him at a time. Thankfully, our cousin Isabelle was able to get Kaleek's father & baby sister a room, at the Ronald Mcdonald house today (01/17). I will now be able to go over and see them and rotate out with George, being with our kids.
I was supposed to return to work this week. Now with everything that has happened, since we found this tumor, I will not be returning to work, until he is better. George is currently taking care of our 3 month old daughter full time, while Kaleek and I are in the PICU. With medical bills that are not covered by Kaleek's insurance and bills that will need to be paid at our home while we are here, we are asking for a little help, no matter how small. Everything is appreciated and will go directly to medical bills and expenses we have while we are here. The doctors are unsure how long our baby boy will be in the PICU, but we were told at least several weeks. We are trying to wrap our heads around all of this and cope the best we can. We also would appreciate your prayers and good thoughts. Thank you for taking the time to read our story and sharing it.
