Hey everybody these are good friends of mine and they are going thru a hard time!! Mitch is a very strong hard working man and this has devastated their family!! Please help I’m anyway you can!! Any amount will help!! Here is their story......
Hello everyone, my name is cindy and my husband is Mitch. My husband was out of work last year for the better part of the year due to a condition called Charcot. Charcot foot is a condition causing weakening of the bones in the foot that can occur in people who have significant nerve damage (neuropathy). The bones are weakened enough to fracture, and with continued walking, the foot eventually changes shape. As the disorder progresses, the joints collapse and the foot takes on an abnormal shape, such as a rocker-bottom appearance.
Charcot foot is a serious condition that can lead to severe deformity, disability and even amputation. We found this out after 5 different doctors and 5 braces. The 5th doctor was the one to diagnose it. He was 100% non weight bearing for over half of the year. He went back to work December 2018 still in excruciating pain. This year March 17th I had to call the ambulance after being sick with fever and chills, throwing up and severe pain. He was admitted into the hospital in Murrells Inlet and diagnosed with a staff infection. He had 4 surgeries while in the hospital. A scope and drain of the foot and ankle. They cut open his big toe and then next the toe was amputated and very last was a below the knee amputation. We are a week out and are having to do IV antibiotics for a few more weeks. We are staying here in Murrells Inlet because of the doctors which puts us 4 hours from home. We have had a lot of expenses and could really use some help to get through. This is so hard to have to ask but this process is going to be months out with healing and trying to get into a prosthesis. Thank you all for your support and kindness. Love, Mitch and Cindy.
