Help with Medical and Living Expenses for Jordyn
Donation protected
Many of you remember my granddaughter Jordyn who, against all odds, was born 12 years ago with ARPKD, a severe renal condition. She had her kidney transplant 8 years ago. Unfortunately, she is now once again in renal failure. I’ve copied her mother’s (Taylor) detailed update below. Please consider helping with medical and living expenses while they navigate this new normal. They are currently staying at Ronald McDonald House in Philadelphia in order to be near the hospital. Taylor is working as much as possible remotely and her employer has been very understanding. But the bills and expenses continue to pile up. And this would ease the burden and stress substantially and help her focus on Jordyn and her care. Thanks for sharing and/or donating.
============
I have been putting this post off for awhile now because I knew once I gave the official update it made the situation extremely real. But, it’s time.. so here we are. From 2013 when Jordyn received her kidney transplant until 2021 Jordyn THRIVED. She’s danced, played multiple sports, learned to ride a bike, started middle school, had sleepovers made allll the friends, all the typical kid stuff. Literally all the things she wouldn’t have been able to do without her transplant. I loved watching every moment of it and it made all the stress and advocating for her life worth it!
In November of 2021 Jordyn had a routine transplant check up and they found a mass on her transplanted kidney. Jordyn was initially diagnosed with PTLD (Post-transplant lymphoproliferative disorder), which is a cancer transplant patients are susceptible to due to their immunosuppressive medications. She had to have her tonsils and adenoids removed as they discovered the cancer was there as well. In March of 2022, it was discovered Jordyn had a different type of cancer in her kidney separate from the PTLD, which was papillary renal cell carcinoma, this is an adult cancer which means it came with the transplanted kidney and the undetected cells grew into cancer over time. Due to Jordyn’s cancer treatment plan, her body rejected her transplanted kidney before they could surgically remove the cancer. In May of 2022, Jordyn acutely went into end stage renal failure. On June 15th Jordyn had her transplanted kidney (her only kidney) removed to get rid of the cancer and will be reliant on dialysis until she is eligible to receive another transplant. She will not be eligible until she is completely cleared of both cancers which at the minimum could take 6 months to 1 year.
In a matter of 6 months our lives changed drastically. When you prepare for a transplant you have meetings and they give you the speech and prepare you for the what could go wrong but you never really think that worst case scenario would happen to you. I’ve said it before and will continue to say it, Jordyn is the strongest person I’ve ever known. She is adjusting to her new normal and still recovering from her surgery. We will be staying in Philadelphia nearby the hospital for at least the next month so I can get training to do Jordyn’s hemo dialysis at home in hopes of getting her back to a semi normal routine and to give her some freedom and flexibility while she waits for a transplant.
So, with all that said #TeamJordyn is back and as strong as ever! We couldn’t have gone through the transplant without everyone’s support 9 years ago and I know we will get through this as well. Jordyn and I continue to have positive thoughts. She came into this world fighting and beating the odds and I know that she will conquer this challenge as well!
