Our son, Matthew Rincker, was air lifted from St. Anthony in Effingham, IL to Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO on January 16th for a shunt malfunction and has remained in the ICU. He underwent surgery to replace his shunt on January 17th. On January 20th we were informed that Matthew had a shunt infection. He had surgery again on January 25th to remove the infected shunt. During this surgery, Matthew suffered a rare stroke and has continued to have multiple strokes since. Matthew was placed on a ventilator after surgery. With all treatment options exhausted, Matthew was removed from the ventilator at 1:27pm on February 2nd. Matthew has never regained consciousness.
