Our loving mother, María Maruja Victoria, is strong, independent, and fearless. She brings happiness and love to everyone that knows her. Maruja is a beautiful soul who cares about everyone and gives unconditional love to all her friends and family.  To know my mom is to love her immediately. 76 years old, mother, sister, grandma, mother-in-law, and friend. 

On the evening of Friday, September 10, Maruja was involved in an accident. While in Mexico City, sitting for dinner with her beautiful cousin Ysmaly and Ysmaly's husband Jaime, the unthinkable happened. They were eating fondue and the flame lit the tablecloth. Within seconds, the tablecloth erupted causing Maruja and Ysmally's clothing to catch fire. 

They were rushed by ambulance to the closest hospital, Angeles de las Lomas, in Mexico City where the doctors found injuries covering 25% of their bodies, including deep burns of second and third-degree. 

With sadness and a heavy heart, I must report that Ysmally passed. She was a beautiful soul filled with happiness and love. 

As of Friday, September 17th, Maruja has successfully completed two procedures and daily therapy in a hyperbaric bed to heal the burns, regenerate and develop new skin

This is a long process, at least three months of hospitalization including ICU and specialized care.  The doctors in Mexico are working on the initial stages of recovery so Maruja is able to travel back home to Venezuela where she will continue ICU treatment at Centro Médico Docente La Trinidad in Caracas. 

The emotional trauma for my mom, her sisters, grandchildren, Domingo, Corina, and me is unimaginable. Anything you can support, big or small is a big help on this long journey of recovery. 

All funds will be used for her recovery.

Maruja is strong. With faith, will, your prayers, support, and the guidance of El Divino Nino, the Sacred Heart of Jesus, we are confident she will get through this.
