Hello everyone, as you all may know our mother has unfortunately passed away due to COVID and other underlying health issues. She was rushed to the hospital due to chest pains, flu like symptoms, and difficulty breathing. The doctors soon notified us she had Pheumonia, needed oxygen support as unfortunately she had contracted COVID-19. On December 29th she went into cardiac arrest but was resuscitated after multiple attempts/compressions which then led to broken ribs, and was induced into a coma. She received an intravenous line. Thereafter, she also required to be on a ventilator and heavily sedated. After a few days they stopped sedating her. The doctors expected her to respond soon after but unfortunately she was neuroligically unresponsive. As we waited a few days for her to respond we learned that she was also having seizure activity. We then waited for multiple brain scans and tests. Ultimately, the doctor notified our family that she had significant brain damage & that her organs were also not functioning on their own, therefore it was the ventilator that was keeping her going.
My mother had constantly reminded us that if she was ever in this situation she did not want to be left on life support. On January 9th, 2021 we were left to make the hardest decision of our lives; we decided it was best to let her go in peace & we also wanted to respect her wishes.
Our mother was one of a kind! She is survived by an amazing husband and 6 children and many grandchildren. She was loving, selfless and compassionate of everyone she knew. We can’t thank her enough for all of the sacrifices she made for us, however we will be forever grateful for the rest of our lives.
Thank you for being our mother
may you Rest In Peace, Martha Aurora Quintero.
