On November 24th (Thanksgiving!) Addie made her dramatic entrance into the world by emergency c-section, following 2 days of attempted induction for preeclampsia that Mariah developed at 37 weeks. Addie is perfect, we are all completely smitten, and Mariah seemed to be recovering well. The new family was settling into their sweet new life together.
Then, on December 16th, Mariah went to the ER with sharp, intense pain with deep breaths. Imaging revealed a pair of blood clots in her lungs, thought to be secondary to her C-section. She was admitted again to the hospital, this time for 3 more days. In order to continue breastfeeding, she’ll need to be on a more expensive, injectable blood thinner for the next 3-6 months.
While Mariah is insured, the complicated birth, second hospital admission, and medication expenses have stacked up quickly beyond what they had set aside for Addie’s birth. Help from their community to dig back out of the medical debt hole would be incredibly meaningful to Nate and Mariah.
