Six year old Marcy was a happy, healthy and very active dog until the past few days. Her condition started with a cough that we thought was kennel cough. Over the weekend she seemed to be weak. Within twenty four hours of us noticing the weakness, she lost all ability to stand. A chest xray showed a mass on her thorax. With only that information we rushed her to Upstate Vet in Albany. The prognosis isn't great but we have to try to save our baby. She has undergone xrays, blood work, and ultrasounds. Today she will get a Ct scan to make sure the mass isn't wrapped around a main artery. If it isn't we will proceed with surgery to remove the mass. The mass has caused her to develop an auto immune disease which is the cause of loss of muscle use. If surgery is successful she has a long road of meds to get the auto immune into remission. Its a hard choice to make but we have to try. She is still alert, eating, drinking, going to the bathroom and is still super happy and sweet. She isn't giving up and neither will we! We know these are hard times financially and emotionally for everyone. If anyone has the ability to help with the ever growing bill it would be appreciated, But never expected of any of our amazingly supportive friends and family. We believe the prayers and well wishes from everyone have gotten us this far. We love our bear and don't think she is done exploring the mountains with us.
