Help with Mara Sultan’s recovery

Anyone who has spent time with Mara Sultan understands this basic principle: to know her is to love her! She has a genuine, selfless way of making those around her feel special and loved. She has opened her heart to so many of us, helping us in countless ways in our times of need. Now she needs us.

On the morning of October 5th, Mara suffered an esophageal asphyxia event in her sleep which triggered cardiac and respiratory arrest. She was revived by the amazing EMTs. In the ICU, she was put into a medically induced hypothermic coma to protect her brain. She remained unconscious, battling seizures for two weeks. Her loved ones and family were told to prepare for the end of her life.

But then a miracle occurred and Mara regained consciousness and very slowly began to fight her way toward recovery!

As a result of her traumatic brain injury, Mara can’t actively move her arms and legs much, is undergoing respiratory stabilization and therapy following a tracheostomy, and has some cognitive and other physical difficulties (like swallowing). The road to recovery will be the hardest challenge Mara has ever faced. She is currently in a long term care facility with plans to move her to a more aggressive rehab facility closer to home. After that we anticipate her needing professional care at home, possibly full time at first, but regardless we will try to arrange the best recovery possible. Obviously the medical expenses both now and in the future look to be exorbitant. Add to that Mara's regular bills, all while she is unable to work.

So we now turn to you, her friends and loved ones, humbly and prayerfully asking for any financial assistance you may be able to provide.
