Help with Kyler's recovery from a brain injury

4/5 Update: We just got done visiting with Kyler for the day and he has majorly improved. They took out his breathing tube this afternoon and we walked in to see his face smiling back at us. He is still pretty delirious from the medications that keep him calm but we were able to have conversations with him and his personality was definitely coming through strong.

He is not completely out of the woods yet and still has a very long road to recovery ahead of him but his progress is substantial and we are so glad to know that he is still very much himself.

Thank you everyone for your messages, well wishes and continued support - absolutely none of it has gone unnoticed. We’ll continue to post updates until he is out of the ICU but for now things are looking up!

Hi friends and family,

On Saturday night, 4/2 our very dear friend Kyler suffered a brain injury in San Francisco while he was alone riding a bicycle. It is unclear whether he was hit by a vehicle or simply fell in the wrong way but regardless, he was found unresponsive and barely breathing as he was rushed to the hospital.

That night he underwent surgery to remove the left side of his skull in order to accommodate for the swelling in his brain and alleviate some of the pressure. He is currently stable but in critical condition in the Neuro ICU at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital.

The next few days are extremely important as the doctors have let us know that the brain typically swells the most from days 3-5 with this type of head trauma. Their primary focus will be on keeping the swelling down, fighting off any infection, and keeping his temperature low.

We are grateful at this time to know that his pupils look good, meaning the pressure in his brain is stable, he has no new contusions, and he has been able to move his arms and legs on his own. He has been responsive to our voices and has been able to nod his head yes and no when asked questions. Currently, he has a breathing tube, but the doctors are confident in the strength of his lungs and hope to be removing it tomorrow.

We are reaching out to friends and family to ask for funds because Kyler has a long road to recovery beyond these next few critical days. He will be in the ICU for at least one more week, on the general floor for at least a few weeks after that, and in a rehabilitation center for weeks, if not months, to undergo physical and cognitive therapy.

The funds you donate will go directly towards any outstanding medical/rehabilitation bills and Kyler's general cost of living as he will be unable to work for the foreseeable future.

We appreciate your generosity for our very loved friend Kyler and will be updating this post daily with his status while he remains in the ICU.

Thank you all so much - we can't wait for Kyler to hear about everyone's love and support when he wakes up soon.
