Kira is a 6 year old pitbull who suddenly became very ill last week. She was a normal, extremely loving and happy pup who would eat anything anyone ever put in front of her and only gives tons of kisses to everyone she meets. She is a gentle protector of her mom, dad and two human little brothers. Her momma (Brittany) started noticing her not acting right and not really eating last week. On Saturday, she noticed that Kira’s urine was extremely dark and decided to take her to the emergency vet thinking she had an infection. Little did she know she was going to get hit with the hardest news she’s ever heard. They weren’t sure exactly what was wrong with Kira but her red blood cell count was extremely low and her liver counts were not good at all. They decided she needed to get to an animal hospital ASAP. The only open spot they found was in Rochester, NY They rushed her to Veterinary Specialists & Emergency Service in Brighton and she was immediately put into the ICU. They ran a plethora of tests to rule out cancer and infections and concluded that she had an auto immune disease. They gave her a blood transfusion in hopes that it would help her recover but unfortunately her liver counts just do not seem to be improving. She is very jaundice and weak and won’t eat or stand on her own. Brittany and Bill have now been forced to face the most difficult decision any pet owner has to face.
Brittany and Bill are the most adamant animal lovers you will ever know. Kira was Brittany’s first baby and holds such a special place in her heart. What she is going through right now is horrific and they need all the help we are able to give them.
They have tried to do everything in their power to help save Kira. Of course, that means an astronomical amount of debt that’s accumulated in just 6 days. Right now they are looking at about $10,000 to pay for the excellent care Kira received.
