Help with Jonny's Recovery
Donation protected
June 30, 2020, I clearly heard the Lord speak to me and say, "It is well." Puzzled by what it meant, I just knew that whatever was to come, it was going to be ok. On July 1, 2020, four young men were in a near-fatal car accident, my 19-year-old, two friends, and my youngest son Jonathon (14 at the time) sustained the greatest injuries. He spent 79 days in the hospital initially and has had many stays since. Just this week, he had his 23rd surgery. Although there were no broken bones, he suffers from a traumatic brain injury that has left him both mentally and physically impaired. He had to learn to breathe, think, reason, sit up, walk, talk, etc. He is still in a wheelchair but walks some with a hemi-walker. He does not use his right arm and is still learning to use his right leg. He has physical therapy and occupational therapy twice a week, and speech therapy once a week at Children's hospital. Add doctor's appointments and that can easily turn into 3-4 days depending on the week. The drive is 57 miles one way from our home. Although we have received some donations, we are oftentimes having to make the choice between paying bills or putting money toward things needed for Jonny. We are so grateful for how far he has come. Initially, we were told that he may not make it and if he did, he would not be able to do any of the things that he is doing right now. Any funds raised will be for medical expenses (i.e., copays, medical equipment, etc. not covered by insurance), travel expenses (gas, wear/tear on the vehicle, food, overnight expenses, etc.), and respite care. Jonny's doctors have not given the green light to return to school. Considering COVID and his long list of limitations, we feel that this is best. However, insurance does not cover any sitting services. We do not qualify for SSI or Medicaid unfortunately either (which pays for respite care). So, for me to go back to work in a few weeks, he is going to need a nurse that is licensed and experienced with respiratory issues to be with him. According to my research, those nurses get paid $30-$40/hour minimum. I cannot afford to pay that out of pocket. I want to do whatever I can to keep that smile on his face and keep him working hard to recover. Please help in any way you can. It is greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.
