Hi everyone, I’m Michele Sobolewski- sister of Nick Sobolewski and future sister-in-law of Jessie Cooley. For those who don’t know, their beloved 9 year old rescue pup Jeff recently and unexpectedly lost the use of his back legs. After a week at the emergency vet in Midland TX, he was sent to a surgical specialist in Ft. Worth TX. After a CT scan on 10/26, he was diagnosed with ruptured discs and pinched nerves and required a surgery called a hemilaminectomy to relieve the pressure on his spine. He has had some complications after surgery on 10/27 and has been in the ICU since then. He is showing signs of improvement, but cannot come home until he is able to urinate on his own. His recovery after leaving the specialist will be 6-8wks long with another CT scan ($2000 a pop!) to check if the surgery was successful.

If you know anything about my family, you know we would do ANYTHING for our pets. Nick and Jessie are certainly no different and live and breathe to give their dogs the best lives they can. Jeff came into Nick’s life over 8 years ago and has been his rock and best friend (sorry, Jessie!) ever since. Jeff’s doggy brother Bell misses his buddy and hopes to go back to normal life soon.

So far, they are looking at $13,000-$15,000, assuming Jeff comes home in the next few days. His surgery was $6,400 and every day in the ICU is an additional $1,800. He had emergency vet bills and will have aftercare costs as well. Nick and Jessie had intended to get married sometime in 2022, but have had to use all of their wedding savings to put towards Jeff’s care (which doesn’t remotely cover the total they’re looking at).
