Help with Janet's Medical Expenses

Help a friend!

Always the first one to reach out a helping hand for others and the last one to ask for help, our good friend, Janet Féirín, now finds herself at a time when she needs her friends and family to rally in support.

One week ago Janet was admitted to the emergency room at local Vancouver, BC hospitals twice in a single week (October 25th and 27th) for consistent bleeding.  For 6 weeks prior to these admittances she had been dealing with constant perimenopausal bleeding and hemorrhaging. In an attempt to curb the bleeding, doctors prescribed medication to slow the bleeding which resulted in a blood clot further complicating her ailment.  She was then faced with a catch 22 that put her at risk of an embolism due to a blood clot and further hemorrhaging from the blood thinners required to manage the blood clot. The medications required to manage both conditions at the same time are too new to be covered sufficiently by the BC medical system. This meant that Janet had to pay out of pocket for all of these medications. She has been prescribed a month worth of blood thinners and it is not clear if she will need to continue with that after the first month. She currently has enough medication to stop the bleeding for the next two weeks, when her next appointment with the specialist is scheduled to occur. As it is unclear what further medications may be required, so are the associated costs uncertain.

At this point the specialist has indicated that surgery will be necessary to remedy the bleeding.  As this can be hazardous on blood thinners, the goal is to deal with the blood clot first.

As many of you know, Janet runs her own business and if she is unable to work, the revenue for her basic living needs disappears. In only a few weeks medical expenses and expenses incurred because of need for medical care alone have already become unmanageable.  Janet has already experienced 1 week of lost wages and 4 weeks of reduced wages as she is unable to work her regular hours.  Lost wages and medical expenses in the last few weeks have already cost her several thousand dollars and there is no clear end to the need for treatment.  Her bleeding has finally slowed and will hopefully stay that way until they are able to do the surgery.  She will need to be on medication for months to treat the anemia.  Her blood clot has improved but she still does not have full mobility.  There is a light at the end of the tunnel for Janet, but she needs our help to be able to take the time to recover. Let’s help Janet and her family get through this difficult time by sending our love and energy and help raise the money necessary to afford the medical support she needs.  We have set a goal of $5,000.  Any help you can give by way of donation is greatly appreciated.
