Help with Hudson & Winnie’s Vet Bills

Donation protected

Hey, my name is Kayla Weeks and our family has recently endured an unforeseen tragedy regarding our sweet golden doodle babies when they got into a bottle of ibuprofen and overdosed. Both Hudson & Winnie are recovering in the hospital and we are told they will survive.

Early Saturday morning (January 8, 2022) my husband and I went out to get a cup of coffee and put our dogs in our bedroom with the door closed as we normally do. However, there was a bottle of ibuprofen (500 pills at 200mg each) left on the night stand. Our younger, white dog Winnie, must have chewed open the bottle & then our older dog, Hudson, who is very food driven was drawn to eat the pills as they have a red sweet coating over them.
When we got home I took Hudson outside to use the bathroom and he started to vomit and then collapsed in our driveway. My 70lb rambunctious boy could not even walk. At the moment I screamed for my husband he was running outside with the bottle of ibuprofen in his hand saying we had to go to the hospital now! I held Hudson in my arms in the back seat and finally after 3 vets turning us away we were referred to Savannah Emergency Veterinary Clinic where they took Hudson in & stabilized him. Hudson was unconscious at this point and non responsive. We spent all morning in a private room without our dog, being told he probably will not survive.
They told us to go home and they will call us if his condition changes.

When we got back home, my mother in law was there with our other dog Winnie, and now she began to show the same early signs of toxicity as Hudson. So we rushed her to the same vet hospital where they told us she also was suffering from ibuprofen toxicity just much less severe than her brother.

After evaluating both of our dogs, they decided to take Winnie on as a patient and told us Hudson’s only chance of survival was to take him to University of Florida’s small animal hospital where they had the technology to pump all of the blood out of his body, remove the plasma, filter out the toxins, and return the filtered blood to him along with donor plasma. The drive was 4 hours, and there was no guarantee he would survive the commute. My husband held him in the back seat and by the grace of god the veterinarians and staff at Florida University saved his life. Hudson still remains in the hospital in Gainesville and we are hoping to bring him home soon. We were able to pick up Winnie from the Savannah vet hospital and she is sleeping in my lap as I write this.

We are eternally grateful both of our dogs survived this tragedy. Life without Hudson and Winnie would leave a gaping hole in our hearts. Anyone who has ever met our dogs know the love that we share with them.

We’re making this go fund me to ask anyone in our community if they are willing to donate to help us pay for their surmounting vet bills. My husband is in the military and I am a student. We are thankful that we were capable of saving them & for all of the love and prayers we have received during this time.

thank you ❤️
