Help with Honey's care and treatment costs
Briseis "Honey" Sekula and her twin brother Ezio were born on Halloween five years ago. Chris and Priscilla Sekula, or "Papa" and "Gigi", have cared for and loved them since day one. When asked what she wants to be when she grows up, her answer is "a doctor and a princess". She is a strong and independent girl with a lot of attitude. A few months ago she started experiencing pains that doctors couldn't explain. After a month of swollen lymph nodes, extreme pain, bone fractures, and trying to get doctors to pay attention, Honey had some Lymph nodes removed for testing.
On November 22, 2021 Honey was diagnosed with ALL (Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia) and was started on chemotherapy. She has had blood transfusions, platelets, bone marrow aspirations, and lumbar punctures since. She will require oral chemotherapy and IV and intrathecal chemotherapy twice a week. Her in-hospital treatments will be done at University hospital in San Antonio on Mondays and Fridays. She will have COVID tests and blood draws to assess how she is doing on those days as well. Her treatment plan could last anywhere between 3 months to 3 years, with someone needing to be with her 24/7 to keep her safe. She is immunocompromised because of the treatments, and so is not allowed to go to school or daycare until she has a working immune system again.
Our family needs any help possible to keep Honey safe and comfortable while she gets well. Funds raised will go towards her treatments and assisting Papa and Gigi to stay with her while she goes through this very difficult journey.
