Help Widow After Loss Of Husband

I never imagined I would be writing something like this.

My husband, Rick, passed away suddenly. I am still in shock, and I am now facing life alone after building our home and future together for decades.

At the same time, our home has suffered serious damage in the crawlspace. A hidden plumbing failure allowed wastewater to soak the insulation and contaminate the space beneath our house. The insulation is now ruined and must be removed, the area cleaned and sanitized, and new insulation installed to make the home safe again.

This damage was not visible from inside the house. It was discovered when we noticed a puddle after opening the hatch to turn off the outside water tap. A plumber was the one who found problem as it was deep inside the crawlspace.

We submitted a claim to our home insurance company, believing this type of hidden damage would be covered. Unfortunately, the claim was denied. As a result, we were left fully responsible for the cleanup and repairs.

Rick’s passing has created immediate financial uncertainty. We lived on modest government pensions, and while I am still numb and processing his loss, the reality is that I will now be living on a significantly reduced income while continuing to cover household bills, cremation expenses, and necessary home repairs. I do not have savings to absorb a sudden repair of this size.

Any funds raised will be used first for the crawlspace cleanup and insulation replacement, as well as cremation costs. If there are funds remaining after these expenses are covered, to help with basic living expenses during this period of transition.

Leaving the crawlspace in its current condition is not safe. The contaminated insulation and damp conditions pose risks to the structure of the home and to my health. As a senior hoping to remain safely in my home, I have no choice but to address this — but I cannot do it without help.

I am asking for support to cover:
• Removal and disposal of contaminated insulation
• Crawlspace cleanup and sanitization
• Replacement insulation
• Cremation expenses
• Related labour and safety costs

Any amount helps more than I can express. If you are unable to donate, sharing this page is also a meaningful way to help.

Thank you for taking the time to read this, and thank you from the bottom of my heart for any kindness you can offer during an incredibly difficult time.

Sincerely,
Darlene
