Hi everyone,
I'm making this GoFundMe on behalf of my mom Beverly Eamer.
In January 2025 my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer and with that our family has been facing long hospital stays, overwhelming medical expenses, lost income, and the emotional toll of fighting cancer. We knew it would be a battle but this became a life-altering moment no one could have prepared for.
The journey so far:
My mom began to really struggle with her health in 2024 while she was working at a dealership in North Bay. She eventually had to go on medical leave for a few weeks while the doctors tried to figure out what was wrong. Unfortunately before the doctors could figure out what was wrong she was forced to leave her job at the dealership due to her health requiring her to take so much medical leave. She began to notice a lump in her armpit but because she had just been sick with a cold as well she thought it could just be swollen lymph nodes due to the cold. When the lump in her armpit got bigger the doctors ran some more imaging on her armpit and breasts. Mid January 2025, a couple months after losing her job she was diagnosed with stage 3 triple negative invasive ductile breast cancer. In March she began her first round of Chemo which was once a week for 12 weeks and though she lost her hair, spirits were still good and she was still about to drive and do some things (so long as she took it slow and rested frequently). At first my mom was given a Pic line for her Chemo but this restricted her so much as she couldn't get it wet so in April during her first 12weeks of Chemo my mom got the surgery for the port so she could try to have some sort of enjoyable Summer camping and swimming with her Grandkids. June 13th 2025, her oldest granddaughters 15th birthday, my mom had her first round of her second set of Chemo which also had the immunotherapy and the red devil treatment in it. Unfortunately her body didn't react well to these new Chemo meds and she became very sick and was admitted into the hospital by the end of June. From late June until the end of August she was constantly in and out of the hospital spending about 98% of her summer extremely weak and sick in the hospital and 1 or 2 days (3-4 at most) at home every week or 2. Near the end of the Summer it got pretty scary with how weak she was but then the doctor finally figured out the Chemo wiped out her Pituitary gland so now she needs to take steroid medication otherwise she becomes very sick, unable to eat and drink and ends up back admitted in the hospital again. Because of all this the rest of her Chemo had also been cancelled.
In September after another PET scan she was supposed to have surgery to remove what they could from her breast and armpit then after healing would do radiation for the spots that were now in her chest and neck. Unfortunately when she went in for Surgery the doctor decided to cancel it as the cancer had grown and he felt Surgery was no longer doable. The doctors decided to have her go straight to starting radiation in hopes that would help. She did 6 long weeks of radiation in Sudbury and near the end was SOOOO horribly burnt from it, so dehydrated and exhausted. When I was staying in Sudbury with her for a couple days (November 24th-26th) to help her, on the 26th the doctor met with us after my mom's radiation appointment and was very concerned about how dehydrated my mom was. It was then agreed that mom would stay at the hospital longer after her radiation appointment to get some hydration. When they tried to find a vein, even with using the large vein finder machine they struggled. Eventually (3 pokes and 2 nurses later) they found a usable vein.
My mom finished radiation on December 8th. At first she appeared to be healing nicely and feeling better but then became sick again and now having a hard time breathing. Not long after finishing radiation in December 2025 my mom was admitted to the hospital again. They began draining fluid off her lungs, about 2 liters the first time. It was hoped that it was just pneumonia but unfortunately was revealed that the cancer had now spread to her lungs. My mom always celebrates Christmas with us with both her and my sister coming to my house so we can do Christmas together with my 4 kids/her Grandkids. This year we had to celebrate Christmas at the hospital. My mom was kept in hospital until a week after New years continually having her lungs drained and still has the tube with a bag attached now to continue to drain the fluid while at home with visits from Home care to check on her. Due to the cancer and fluid around her lungs my mom is also on Oxygen requiring an Oxygen machine while at home and Oxygen bottles when traveling to appointments. The hope is to start her on Chemo again ASAP. Through everything my mom also continues to try and keep a smile on her face especially for her Grandkids.
During all this my mom obviously hasn't been able to work and my Step Dad has had to also take off a lot of time to help look after her when she was home and especially during the radiation treatments in Sudbury which were Monday to Friday for 6weeks. The financial aspect has been a struggle but the original hope and plan was Chemo then Surgery then radiation and by the new year she would be better but unfortunately as you've just read things did not go anywhere near according to the original hope and plan. Now with the spread into her lungs requiring Oxygen and full time care my Step Dad is off work for an unknown duration to help care for her.
Now we don't like to have to do this and have never been good at it but we are asking for help please. Prayers, blessings, and we would also appreciate any bit of financial donation you are willing and able to make while we try to make it through this difficult time. Our family has tried to shoulder the burden alone hoping it would be over by now but unfortunately it's not so now we are asking for help.
Any and all help even if it's just a share is greatly appreciated.
Thank you and best wishes to all
