Hello I am Mandy and I'm here to swallow my pride and ask for help for the first time in my life.
My worst nightmare came true yesterday.
My beautiful little boy Gizmo got hit by a customer's car in our work yard and he just left, drove away.
He's alive but he's not in a good way. He needs to have his back right leg amputated, He has 3 broken ribs, a dislocated rib, a broken pelvis in 3 spots, a broken or rather smashed foot with ripped open everything, and gravel all in his skin under his pelt where it has come away from the muscle along his side and chest.
Yesterday the vet said he could possibly be fixed with traction bolts plates etc. but it's expensive and could take 8 weeks plus to heal as apposed to a week up and about with amputation but wouldn't know more until the ortho surgeon saw him today and had a proper look at his x-rays.
Today I got the call that broke my heart, my boy needs to have his leg taken.
He has a big hole the size of a tennis ball in his skin on his side from the skid and gravel all underneath between his body and skin layer which needed to have emergency surgery to get cleaned out as soon as he got there. One thing to be thankful for is his skin has reattached itself over night to his little body so he may not need skin grafts as they said it would most likely all die where it was detached but there may still be little pieces of gravel left that may cause future worries.
He was screaming in Shock and pain and bit me so I have some decent hand injuries now too.
Luckily the vet is only 2 blocks from our work so I was able to get him there relatively fast.
We have a long road ahead of us...
My poor boy hasn't been away from me since he was 6 weeks old, he's now 11 years old and my absolute best friend
Its only 24 hours so far and our bill is already up over $4400.00
