Help with Gibby’s Rent and Living Expenses
Donation protected
Hi, our names are Miranda and Robby, and we’re fundraising for our best friend Gibby (Daniel Gibb).
He is a 25 year old that has a chronic lung disease that has progressed to where he is at 10% breathing capacity. Gibby now has to be connected to oxygen at all times, and is awaiting appointments and testing to determine if he is physically able to receive a double lung transplant.
Who is Gibby and Why Should You Care?
Gibby is one of the kindest people we’ve ever known. He has faced a lot of adversity in his life from personal and family setbacks, to a history of medical issues that have plagued him since childhood. Despite all this, he has always been the most positive person, with a smile on his face. Gibby has a huge heart, and has helped us out time and time again, and it’s only right that we try and return the favor.
Gibby grew up with us in San Diego, and he has since moved to Texas for less expensive living as well as to be closer to family. He is an incredible artist, musician, clothing designer, and is very creative and unique. His ability to stay in the moment, and think of others before himself, are things that we try to absorb and learn from him.
Why is he in this situation?
Because of Gibby’s lung condition, he is unable to perform basic physical tasks before running out of breath. This rules out many entry level service work employment opportunities such as waitering, bartending, etc.
Currently, Gibby has been driving for Grubhub, but the pay is very minimal, and the physical toll of climbing stairs and going from delivery to delivery limits the amount he can drive.
He is a talented artist and graphic designer, but without formal work experience in the field, it has been difficult for him to land a consistent graphic design gig. If anyone has any contacts and could help him in this regard - that would be amazing. Please reach out to us for his portfolio. A job where he can sit at a desk or even work from home would take so much less of a toll on him.
What will fundraising do for him?
Gibby’s lung condition has deteriorated to the point where he has less energy and ability to work than he did before. He also has been enduring a great deal of stress and anxiety, as the prospect of getting a double lung transplant is daunting and undoubtedly scary.
This money will support Gibby’s rent and living expenses for the next few months, so he has time to focus on his health, and so he does not have to have financial stress and concerns about making rent. His doctor has prescribed him a respiratory therapy program, along with other exercises and things for him to do to optimize his lung situation. Gibby needs more time and more energy devoted to getting better. These funds will allow him to do so, and not be out in the hot Texas sun running out of breath doing Grubhub.
